About CSAC Excess Insurance Authority

The EIA is a joint powers authority of California public entities, which was established in 1979 to provide insurance and risk management services to California’s counties. Since then, our membership has expanded beyond the counties to include numerous other public agencies such as cities, schools, joint powers authorities, fire districts, etc. 

The EIA operates various risk-sharing pools, which provide insurance and risk management services to its members for lines of business including workers’ compensation, general liability, property, medical malpractice, and employee benefits. 

About the Position

The Meeting & Event Planner, under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for planning and organizing all Board and Committee meetings, including related networking events.  This means working with hotel staff where applicable, as well as taking care of all aspects of on-site meetings.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating and managing approximately 100 meetings per year plus several seminars located throughout the state;
  • Negotiating and executing contracts;
  • Arranging for catering and transportation services;
  • Managing meeting registration process, including distribution of meeting notifications;
  • Set up, host, and moderate web-based meetings;
  • Set-up and clean-up for all on-site meetings;
  • Development of annual budget and monitoring of expenditures throughout the year;
  • Making travel arrangements for coworkers as well as members attending meetings and events; and
  • Maintaining schedule of internal meetings and ensuring proper scheduling of internal meeting rooms.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a background and education in planning and hosting meetings, preferably with at least 2 years of experience.  A Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) designation is highly desired.  Experience in negotiating and executing contracts is highly desirable, as is an Associate’s degree. Customer service is critical in this position, so the ideal candidate will have experience in a similar environment, and will be able to demonstrate their commitment to provide the highest level of customer service possible.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements of this position typically include: sitting for long periods of time, reaching, grasping, kneeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Some travel, including overnight stays, is required.

Licensing Requirements

A valid California Driver’s license is required.  Proof of auto insurance with no business exclusion is required. 

Salary and Benefits

The hiring salary range for this position is $4,153 – $4,984 per month.  A generous benefit package is provided including Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan with coverage options including health, dental and vision; long-term disability and short-term disability insurance; life insurance; optional deferred compensation program; and sick and vacation leaves.  As a PERS participant, EIA employees are exempt from paying Social Security except for the Medicare portion of the cost.
