Description of Committee

  • Nine member committee, including
  • Seven voting and two alternate committee members, with
  • One designated public entity representative voting seat
  • The Executive Committee appoints a County Counsel to serve as a legal advisor
  • Scheduled to meet every other month at the EIA office
  • Committee members are participants in the Excess Workers' Compensation (EWC) and/or General Liability 1 (GL1) Programs

Responsibilities

  • Reviews EWC and GLI Program claims, which involve or may involve Authority pool liability
  • Authorizes claim settlements up to $5,000,000
  • Advises Executive Committee and Board regarding claims adjusting and legal defense services
  • Prepares recommendations to the Executive Committee for settlement authority above its limit
  • Reviews and recommends EIA claims handling procedures and requirements
