The U.S. Department of Labor has put together a free app available for both iPhone and Android devices to get the heat index for a location and applicable protective measures.

The OSHA Heat Safety Tool calculates the heat index for a worksite and, based on the heat index, displays a risk level to outdoor workers. Then, with a simple click, you can get information about the protective measures that should be taken to protect workers from heat-related illness.

Reminders such as providing adequate water and shade; scheduling rest breaks; what to do in an emergency; heat illness signs and symptoms; and first aid.

To download this app for iPhone devices, visit the App Store. To download for Android devices, visit Google Play Store. Once there search “OSHA Heat Safety Tool” and then select “Install,” a shortcut will be created on your mobile device.
