Firing any employee is a stressful event for both sides. Some employees see it coming and can cope and others feel completely blindsided. The fears of retaliation and workplace violence are real concerns, but should not stop agencies from making the HR decisions and taking the steps they need to initiate. This session talks about the need to plan termination meetings; legal issues; how to focus on not toppling the employee’s ‘dignity dominoes’; how to keep the meeting safe and secure; and when and how to use the concepts of ‘benevolent severance.
