Coping with Mental Health Issues in the Workplace and the Impact on Industrial and Non-Industrial Claims

Overview

While this webcast is open to all EIA members, some of the Eyres Law Group Services are only available to members of the PWC and/or GL1 programs.

Overview

This webinar will provide up-to-the minute information on handling mental health issues in the workplace. The impact of the expanded DSM-5, released in May 2013, is becoming clear as more health care practitioners are providing documentation to support requested accommodations for mental health conditions, from the chronic to the episodic. From mood disorders, to recurrent bouts of depression, public sector employers are coping with a wide variety of accommodation requests.

Learning Objectives

In this webinar we will cover:

  • The newest regulations and judicial approaches to workplace accommodations, including therapy animals, reductions in workload or other common and unexpected stressors.
  • How to respond proactively to reports of threatening behavior
  • When you can require a psychological fitness for duty examination
  • How to handle the ramifications of employees with chronic and episodic conditions that require leaves of absence year after year.
  • As an added special bonus, we will share the perspectives of mental health professionals and general practitioners about how employers approach the interactive process and techniques that designed to get greater cooperation in constructing work restrictions that are realistic and workable.
