Crisis Incident Management Series Part 8 of 8 - Preparing for a Black Swan Event
“Black Swans” are defined as rare, random, and high-impact events and are characterized to be catastrophic and broad, sometimes referred to as a Critical Incident. However, many argue that these types of events are occurring more and more frequently: cyberattacks, global unrest, financial instability, violence in the workplace, and active shooter situations. Some argue that these events should have been identified because of lessons learned from past event, or warning signs that indicated such an event may occur. In reality however, Black Swan events still continue to be unpredictable and unpreventable. Although you can’t prepare for every scenario, you can establish principles and protocols to be better prepared for the unexpected.
Preparing for and Responding to a Black Swan Event
Having established principles and practices in place before the Black Swan event occurs is crucial to an effective response and recovery. Core principles and practices will be discussed in this webinar.
Black Swans are unpredictable but can be prepared for by assessing risk and exposures, response goals, and quick response strategies before the event occurs. Taking this approach can provide your organization with a number of benefits including, but not limited to: reputation protection, a faster return normal to operations and minimization of the impact.
