Slips, Trips and Falls - Part 2 of 3: Educational Environments

Overview

In a recent loss analysis of our members’ Workers’ Compensation claims, slips, trips and falls were among the leading claim causes in both frequency and severity. As employers, a safe work environment should be at the top of our risk management and safety list; after all, one of the greatest assets of an organization is the staff, right?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, public elementary and secondary schools were #2 for selected industries reporting 100,000 or more nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses in 2014. From faculty, to teachers, to students, we all need to do our parts in the planning and prevention of fall incidents.

In Part 2 – Educational Environments, we will go over:

  • The Human Balance System
  • The types of falls common to our work environment
  • How to recognize potentially hazardous conditions and apply corrective measures
  • Preventative tips for various educational job titles (e.g. teachers, custodians, bus drivers)
  • How to fall safely

Who should attend?

  • Administrators
  • Risk Managers
  • Safety Managers/Safety Officers/Safety Representatives
  • Department Managers, Teachers, Custodians, and other faculty members
  • Facility/Property Owners and Managers
  • Anyone interested in preventing slips, trips and falls
