Job Description:

DATE OPENED: August 7, 2017 Contra Costa County is seeking experienced Safety professionals interested in career opportunities as a Safety Services Manager in the Health Services Department. The Safety Manager will be responsible for managing illness and injuring prevention, environmental, health and safety (ESH) program across all divisions of the Health Services Department located in East, West and Central Contra Costa County. The Health Services has over 4,300 employees and is responsible for providing various healthcare related services throughout the County. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the Department's Injury Illness and Prevention Program, conducting onsite inspections and investigations, analyzing and disseminating data and accompanying recommendations on work injury/illness trends within the Department, developing or customizing departmental compliance policies and procedures, and working with the County Risk Management Department to create, plan and present training classes in various areas of compliance. The position resides in the Health Services Personnel Unit located in Martinez California and will report to the Director of Personnel. Requirements:

License Required: Candidates must possess a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process. Education: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Administration, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management; Public Health, Occupational Health Science and/or Safety, or a closely related field. Experience: Three (3) years full-time, or its equivalent, of increasingly responsible experience in safety administration or in a staff capacity, performing duties in areas such as injury illness prevention administration, work safety investigations and prevention, and safety training. Substitution: Possession of one of the following Safety related certificates may be substituted for one (1) year of full-time experience, CSP-Certified Safety Professional, issued by the Board of Certified Safety; CSM-Certified Safety Manager, issued by the World Safety Organization; CHMM-Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, issued by the Institute of Hazardous Material Management; CIH-Certified Industrial Hygienist, issued by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene; CAC-Certified Asbestos Consultant, issued by the State of California.
