Special Edition: Information for our Wildfire Affected Members
Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to those that are battling and affected by the many wildfires burning throughout the State. Our members in Butte, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Sonoma, Yuba and other counties are currently being affected. While the fires may impact our business buildings, they also affect us personally, including the homes and lives of our employees.
How EAP Services can Help
For those that participate in the EIA’s EAP, we wanted to share the following key element of the EIA’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for you to share with your employees:
EAP services are available to employees and anyone in their household. This means that if I am a covered employee on the EAP and I have people that are in my home due to evacuations, they are also covered by the EAP.
Please pass this information and the attached document, Coping with a Fire by MHN, our EAP service provider, on to your employees and let them know that these services are available to them and their occupants as they cope with hardship.
Vision Service Plan (VSP)
VSP is working directly with their network doctors, business partners, and relief agencies, including the American Red Cross, to best support and fulfill the eye care needs of those directly affected by recent natural disasters.
What can you do?
Spread the word. Let employees, family and friends know VSP Vision Care will help them replace their eyewear. Here’s how:
- VSP Members get their benefits reinstated
Any VSP member who has lost or broken their eyewear or is in need of eye care services due to recent natural disasters can call our VSP Member Services Support Line at 800-877-7195 to have their VSP benefits reinstated—regardless of eligibility.
- Non-VSP members get access to free eye care and glasses
If you, your friends or family are in need of eye care due to recent disasters who are not VSP members, contact the local American Red Cross to request a VSP Global Eyes of Hope gift certificate to use for no-cost eye care and glasses at a local VSP network doctor’s office.
Express Scripts (ESI)
Express Scripts has procedures in place to assist members in the event of an emergency or disaster situation. If an eligible employee or retiree is no longer able to obtain their medication due to the disaster situation, they have emergency access to their medications through their local retail (Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart, etc.) pharmacy. How it works:
- If an eligible member from the disaster area attempts to fill a prescription for lost or damaged medication, the claim may reject for “Refill too Soon”.
- An override function has been initiated that should allow the pharmacy to refill the medication. However, if the claim will not process;
- Pharmacies should contact the Pharmacy Help Desk for assistance in overriding refill too soon claims by calling 800-922-1557.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact EIA Member Services, or our Employee Benefits Manager, Sidney DiDomenico, or call 916-850-7300.
