Legislation Update
On November 1, the Eyres Law Group provided a webcast on EIAtv to review key bills that were passed during the 2017-18 legislative session. It is customized for education members and focuses on new and amended sections of the Education and Government Code affecting school districts.

The webcast is now available on the Educators channel in EIAtv. If you have not accessed EIAtv before, follow these instructions or contact an EIA staff member.

The California School Board Association has also released a compendium report detailing newly signed legislation affecting school districts.

Wildfire Smoke Mitigation
Due to recent wildfires in Northern and Southern California, we are recirculating our Risk Simplified article discussing how to mitigate employee exposure to wildfire smoke.
Addressing Emotional Trauma in Schools
The California Department of Education, in collaboration with the University of Southern California, is hosting a two-part webinar series addressing emotional trauma in schools on November 29, 2018, and February 7, 2019.

Space is limited to a small group of schools as the hosts and trauma experts will provide technical assistance and support beyond the webinar. Schools or districts will be required to participate as teams and attend both webinars. An ideal team includes:
  • An administrator
  • A teaching coach
  • A school/district employed mental health professional
  • A classified front line staff
To be considered, districts or schools are required to complete a short survey. For additional information, please contact Monica Nepomuceno, Programs Consultant at the California Department of Education.
