Education Connection

Education Forum: Are You Registered?
Don’t forget to register for our annual Education Forum held this month on the 17th in Pleasanton and the 18th in Ontario. This year Lynne Olson, Senior Emergency Services Coordinator with the CA Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, will discuss Emergency Preparedness and Operations for school sites. Ashlee Marinello, Account Manager with TargetSolutions will present information on newly created courses for our education members. There will also be roundtable discussions on education related issues and concerns. Travel expenses for up to 2 attendees per entity can be reimbursed. We look forward to seeing you there!
Restoring Safety In Schools
After meeting with our school members over the past month, it is evident that the sense of safety in our schools has been compromised. As a result of the tactics used in Florida, we have learned that during fire drills some teachers are delaying their evacuation until the legitimacy of the drill is confirmed by the principal through the intercom. Although it is understandable why teachers would take such an action, this must be avoided.

Action must be taken to restore the sense of safety for your students, staff, and parents. If you are not sure where to start, read more here.

Would you like to share what your district is doing to restore the sense of safety in your district? Post it to our message board. For further assistance, please contact EIA’s Loss Prevention Department.
Preventing Heat Illness
As the weather heats up, protect your staff from developing a heat-related illness. Employees and supervisors each have specific training requirements. Our EIAtv webcast is designed to satisfy 99% of Cal/OSHA’s requirements; however, to be in full compliance, you must also have your employees and supervisors review your district’s Heat Illness Prevention Policy. Cal/OSHA is very clear that training must include this step.

Does your policy need reviewing? Send it to us! We will recommend updates to ensure compliance with the 2015 revisions.
