Creating an Atmosphere of Respect: Tips and Techniques for Handling Workplace Harassment, Abusive Conduct and Bullying

Overview

While this webcast is open to all EIA members, some of the Eyres Law Group Services are only available to members of the PWC and/or GL1 programs.

Overview

Claims of hostile work environments, based on the conduct of managers and co-workers are still a major source of lawsuits, despite increased attention by employers and administrative agencies. In addition to sexual harassment, complaints frequently focus on offensive verbal or written exchanges based on race, ancestry, religion and even age and disability. We anticipate increased potential for claims in 2016, in part because of election year divides and the impact of anxiety and pressures due the lingering impact of budgetary constraints and workloads.

Equally significant: public entities have also seen a distinct rise in claims of bullying or abusive work environments. Alternative accusations often involve unfair employment practices or a generalized climate of workplace hostility. In addition to legal consequences, the intangible effects of workplace harassment are profound: diminished achievement, low morale, decreased productivity and stress. This webinar will provide an update on the newest case law and regulatory environment, and will explore both prevention strategies and the all important “immediate and appropriate corrective action.”
