Legislative Update: New Labor, Employment & Education Laws for 2016
While this webcast is open to all EIA members, some of the Eyres Law Group Services are only available to members of the PWC and/or GLl programs.
As always, the California legislature is engaged in a last minute “flurry” of passing bills out of committee and sent to the floor of the Assembly and Senate respectively. September 11th was the deadline for each house to pass pending bills and there are many affecting public sector employment, labor and education law. October 11, 2015, is the last day for the Governor to sign or veto legislation. This webinar will provide a complete up-to-the-minute review and analysis of all the new statutory amendments and anticipated impact on public sector workforces. Topics include:
• Status of all workers’ compensation bills from this term, including gender discrimination in apportionment, QME evaluator designations for neuropsychologists, and other measures.
• Statutory amendments affecting the recruiting and hiring process for public sector, including AB 676 which is directed exclusively at public agency employers;
• CFRA amendments (this time to the statue itself, not just the regulations) and the impact on leave management;
• Update on expansion of benefits under the California Paid Family Leave (PFL) program;
• New laws impacting education, including changes to immunization exemptions for K12 students and other significant amendments to the California Education Code;
• Bonus content: Important developments from the enforcement agencies in light of new legislation, including DFEH, EEOC and Depts. of Education and Labor and including an update on the federal Department of Labor rulemaking on who is – and is not – exempt from overtime.
