Recap of the 2019 Legislation Session: New Mandates, Policies and Procedures for Public Schools

Overview

Presented by:  Patricia Eyres - Managing Partner, Eyres Law Group

As always, the California legislature is engaged in a last minute “flurry” of passing bills out of committee and sent to the floor of the Assembly and Senate respectively. There are many new statutes affecting public schools and offices of education in the following areas:

  1. Employment laws, including expansion of substantive and procedural employee rights
  2. Expansion of lactation accommodation requirements
  3. Changes to the Ed. Code that affect certificated and classified employees
  4. New rights and responsibilities for students’ rights
  5. Workplace safety
  6. Late start time for middle school and high school
  7. Everything you need to know about what was signed and what was vetoed.
