Harassment Prevention, Awareness, and Response: Meeting the California AB1825 Training Requirement

Overview

This webinar session meets the two-hour training requirement, needed every two years, for all employees defined as directors, managers, and supervisors, who guide the direction, duties, schedules, performance, and behavior of employees as part of their jobs. It’s also required for all elected officials, as per AB 1661. Besides focusing on sexual and racial harassment prevention, awareness-building in the organization and its work culture, and the necessary investigative and corrective responses, this program also covers the recent “Abusive Conduct” statute and the new “Gender Identity/Expression” statute now mandated by the California legislators as a part of the overall topic. This webinar is taught by Dr. Steve Albrecht, a 25-year HR professional and training specialist well-known throughout the state for his work with cities, counties, utilities, school districts, and joint powers authorities. The program features content which should already be familiar to many attendees, like defining sexual and racially harassing behaviors; protected classes; quid pro quo sexual harassment; necessary policy language; multiple channels of reporting; and preventing discrimination and retaliation throughout the employment cycle. It also covers important related issues like: the value of boundaries, behavior control, and giving early feedback; how and why to be the first line of defense; the impact of gossip; social media policies; diversity awareness; accurately defining and responding to a “hostile work environment”; bullying awareness and response; when to use coaching, conflict resolution, or discipline for harassment situations; preventing litigation; and how and why to demonstrate true leadership and accountability.
