Preventive Care and Health Care Reform

September 27th, 2010

One of the most attractive aspects of health care reform is the emphasis on preventive care. Plans that are not grandfathered must offer an extensive list of preventive care benefits with no cost-sharing for in-network providers. All HMO and some PPO plans already offer some preventive care, although some cost-sharing (co-payment or co-insurance) is often required. The list of preventive care benefits required for non-grandfathered plans is extensive. The cost impact of adding these benefits (if your plan is not grandfathered) ranges from zero to 1.5% of premium depending on many factors.
