Minors and the Law

Overview

Topics we will cover during this hour and a half session on "Minors and the Law" will include: 

  • Who consents for a minor when the parents are divorced, or absent?  

  • Who consents for wards or dependents?  

  • When can a minor consent to his or her own care?  

  • Who is an emancipated minor in California?

  • What are "sensitive services" and what criteria must be met for sensitive services consent?

  • Who controls the chart when a minor could have, or did consent to the care?  

  • Who pays for minor consent services when the minor is covered on a parent's insurance plan but doesn't want EOB (explanation of benefits) letters sent?
