New EIA Website: In August, we launched a brand new website that is not only cleaner, but is also responsive. Now you can use the site on any mobile device.

Cyber Liability Program: Cyber Liability program separated from the Property program. Cyber Liability coverage includes Information Security and Privacy Liability, Privacy Notification Costs, Website Media Content Liability, and more.

New Employee Benefits Position: In May, the EIAHealth Committee approved the addition of the Employee Benefits Specialist staff position.

Connections Database Launched: Earlier this year, we launched a new database system called Connections. This database will optimize member management and streamline program information for staff.

New Claims System: In September, the Technology Committee approved the selection of Systema Software as the EIA’s new claims system. Systema should be in full use by July of 2013.

Workers Compensation Law Changes: Governor Brown signed SB 863 into law, changing liens, independent medical reviews, and independent bill reviews.

TargetSolutions Contract Extended: The EIA contract with TargetSolutions, our Loss Prevention and training platform, was extended 5 more years.

CAFR: The EIA was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011. In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government’s CAFR must be easily readable and efficiently organized, as well as satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.

Board of Directors Approved Amendments: Amendments were made to the Memorandums of Coverage for GLI and EWC, as well as Liability Claims Administration Guidelines (Addendum B).

Alliant Liaison: Recently, a full-time Alliant staff member has joined us here at the EIA office to act as a liaison between companies.

Happy Holidays from the EIA, and here’s to a Happy 2013!

Larger font and enhanced text colors for improved readability

Easier to find the page you want with a restructured navigation system

Easy to use on the go—same site experience on desktops and mobile devices

Improved homepage layout to highlight the information you access the most (based on user data)

Mobile-accessible Dashboard which maintains functionality on all devices

Improved blog experience (new design, easy to read on mobile devices)

Calendar—improved layout

Message Board/Forum—improved layout

We welcome your feedback, and we hope you enjoy the new design when it launches. These types of projects are part of ongoing efforts to make the site better and better for you, our valued members.

• A man in Brittan recently had his taste buds insured for $1.5 million, but since he works as a master butcher and is a baconologist, guess it makes sense.

• Last year, a custom car maker in California was sued by DC Comics for making replicas of the Batmobile. Apparently buyers had their choice of the 1966, 1989, or 1996 versions of the Batmobile. Holy copyright infringement, Batman!

• According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada , a driver reported severe damage to his car when he hit a deer on a rural highway. But later on he changed it to a rabbit. The claims investigator wondered just how big the rabbits were in that part of Canada. Then the man changed his story to a fence post—guess it just jumped right out in front of him.

• Earlier this year, a movie theater patron in Michigan sued AMC theaters for the high price of concessions. The moviegoer believed that paying $8 for a soda and candy violated the Michigan Consumer Protection Act. Popcorn anyone?

• According to an article by CNBC, Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers has a $1 million dollar insurance policy on his hair. Keith Richards has a $1.6 million dollar policy on his hands, and Bruce Springsteen’s voice is insured for $6 million.

Protect your entity from jumping fences, fake Batmobiles, and other hazards by checking out the EIA Loss Prevention Information Sheets.

At the June 2nd Board dinner we had the pleasure of poking a little fun at Bob Adams and wishing him well in his retirement after 31 years of association with the EIA including the last 19 as our CFO. Shortly after, we were notified by the GFOA that the June 30, 2010 CAFR – Bob’s last CAFR – has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This marks the 16th year in a row that the EIA has received this honor under Bob’s guidance. Way to go Bob, it must feel good to go out on top! Here is a news release prepared by the GFOA.

CSAC EIA and SIA employees squared off on Tuesday for the 2nd annual TP Challenge where a combined total of 6,863 rolls of TP were collected for the annual United Way LIVE UNITED toilet paper drive.

These two teams met at the SIA office for some friendly competition consisting of constructing the tallest TP tower, the most creative structure built with TP and the most TP rolls collected.

CSAC EIA employees took back the coveted “golden TP” trophy for collecting the most TP with 3,556 rolls and also took the most creative structure award. SIA employees honorably collected 3,307 rolls of TP and won the tallest TP tower.

We would like to thank everyone who supported the EIA in our efforts this year. It was a great day of fun and teamwork with the real winners being the United Way. Until next year….
